Rajinder Da Dhaba - Dhaba food is something I feel like I don't see many foreigners try in India. But being a food person and someone that loves a new experience, I knew I had to try this out in India. And if I was going to do it, why not try at one of the most popular in Delhi. I have to say even before I took my first bite, I was enthralled just by the size and magnitude of this restaurant. After ordering and exploring a little bit, I soon found out that this place is home to 5-6 sections spanning from the main road, all the way to the back side eating area. The sections are marked off for certain types of foods, so I was lucky enough to pick a section that is my all time favorite, GRAVY!! I love all things gravy in India so this section was a little bit of heaven for me. The energetic staff, various types of food, and roti counter, made this place feel like an amusement park for food lovers.
After receiving my food, I quickly got initiated into the worlds of Dhaba food basics AKA how to make a Desi style onion. Seeing the two older gentlemen in their smart casual attire enjoying chicken curry with desi onion, meant only one thing, I too, wanted to try the desi onion. A quick grab and a few bangs later, I was on my way to trying my first desi onion with my first Dhaba meal in India.
At first I thought the price was a little much for Dhaba food, but after seeing the grand stature of mutton(I mean there were like 3 huge pieces!), I realized I had definitely gotten my moneys worth. Not to mention the flavor, the spice, the piquantness of this dish. Along with a rich, creamy, butter filled gravy, I quickly realized, this Dhaba quickly changed my "perception" of what a Dhaba truly is.
I want to give another shout out to the staff here, they are truly what makes the Dhaba, an experience of a lifetime.
